Mobility for Desk Bodies

Sitting all day doesn’t just make you “tight.” It changes how your body moves. Your hips stay bent for hours, your upper back rounds forward, your neck juts out, and your core stops doing its job. Even if you work out, you can still feel stiff and achy because your body is spending most of the day locked in the same position.
The good news: you don’t need an hour-long routine to undo desk posture. You need short, consistent mobility work that opens up the joints that get stuck and wakes up the muscles that go offline. Think of it like brushing your teeth. Small daily effort prevents bigger problems later.
If you feel tight hips, a stiff neck, or low back soreness after sitting, your body is asking for more movement variety, not more willpower.
Here are a few mobility moves that work especially well for desk bodies:
Hip flexor stretch: opens the front of the hips and reduces low back tension
Thoracic (upper back) rotation: improves posture and takes strain off the neck
Chin tucks: strengthens deep neck muscles and relieves “tech neck” tension
Glute bridges: reactivates glutes so your low back stops overworking
Standing hamstring hinge: improves hip mobility without aggressive stretching
How to make it stick:
Set a timer for every 60–90 minutes. Your body needs a reset before it locks up.
Do 2–3 moves for 2 minutes total. Short breaks beat long routines you won’t repeat.
Pair it with something you already do. Before coffee, after meetings, or before lunch.
Make movement a requirement, not a reward. Mobility isn’t extra. It’s maintenance.
If your back or neck pain keeps returning, treat it as feedback. Your body is adapting to your desk. Mobility helps you take control of that adaptation, so sitting stops feeling like it’s “breaking” you.
