If you suffer from chronic knee pain, it’s critical to implement a treatment plan that minimizes the impact on your life. Letting this ailment linger will eventually catch up to you, making it difficult to live the life you enjoy.
In addition to proper treatment — which can include rest, ice therapy, and heat therapy — here are some things that you don’t want to do:
Overuse your knee: This doesn’t mean you have to rest all day, every day, but pushing yourself to the limit is not in your best interest.
Poor form when exercising: For example, poor running form can put unnecessary stress on your already painful knee.
Neglecting to warm up or cool down: It’s imperative to warm up before physical activity and cool down upon completion.
Improper stretching: Stretching should be part of your warming up and cooling down routine. Furthermore, be sure that you’re stretching properly to prevent injury.
Chronic knee pain doesn’t have to control your life. Find the root cause, treat it appropriately, and make changes to your life (see above) that can help you reduce pain and discomfort.
