There’s nothing worse than suffering an injury, whether it be a muscle sprain, ligament strain, or anything else that slows you down.
With so many treatment options to consider, it’s natural to overlook your diet. But if you’re doing so, you could be missing out on an opportunity to speed up the recovery process.
Here are some ideas to experiment with as you tackle your recovery:
• High protein foods: When you suffer a muscle injury, eating more protein reduces the risk of losing muscle mass. As a result, you’re able to speed up your recovery and better the likelihood of feeling your best when you return from your injury.
• Vitamin C: There are plenty of fruits and vegetables that are high in vitamin C. Consider adding a few of these to your diet, as they can help reduce inflammation and improve range of motion. Oranges, bell peppers, and tomatoes are a good place to start.
• Omega-3 fatty acids: Many injuries can cause inflammation in your body, such as a sprained shoulder or ankle. Foods that are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids can reduce inflammation. Some of your best options include chia seeds and walnuts.
The next time you suffer an injury, alter your diet accordingly. It could be just what you need to make a faster recovery.
